The pandemic kept me close to home for awhile. Instead of exploring the world, I explored my natural surroundings. Frequent walks in the woodlands, wetlands and parks of my suburban community have revealed a surprising variety of natural specimens including leaves, seeds, pods and cones. Arranging and drawing them became a daily practice.
Like my larger works, these small works begin with a layer of color, followed by texture, more color and excavation of the surface. This process repeats until I am satisfied with the result. Molded paper clay adds inspiration from nature and layers of cold wax or acrylic medium seal the surface.
